Background Information: Ockert played cricket at Tulbach High School from 1971 – 1980 (from U11 to U19 teams). From 1984 – 1986 he played for Pretoria High School Old Boys and from 1987 – 1988 for Durban Tech. He also played for Brackenfell (1989 – 1990), Ceres (1991-1993), and Rawsonville (1994-1997). He then started coaching rugby in Ceres until September 2004, when he began his umpiring career
