BOLAND WIN AGAIN

The Boland Senior Womens cricket team continued their winning ways in 2010, when they won their 3rd consecutive match in the New Year.

On Saturday, the team travelled to Mosselbay for their match against South Western Districts.  The home team won the toss and decided to field first…, a decision they probably soon regretted as openers Yolandi van der Westhuizen (58) and Sunette Loubser (40) put on an opening stand of 117 of a mere 124 balls, striking 14 fours in the process.  Alison Hodgkinson picked up were the openers left off and blasted 97 runs not out of only 95 balls. Boland concluded their 50 over innings with 279/8 on the scoreboard.  The only respectable bowler was G Abrahams with figures of 3/34 in her 10 overs.

The SWD openers started steadily, amassing a 57 run partnership with Benita Bezuidenhout top scoring with 58 runs.  Wickets started to fall at regular intervals and the SWD innings never got back on track. The youngster Stacey Lackay again showed her potential taking 3/23 in her 6 overs and Alicia Smith’s experience shone through with a return of 3/26 in her 9.4 overs. SWD were bowled out for 161 runs, handing Boland a 118 run victory and securing a much needed bonus point in the process.

Boland’s next match is against log leaders Western Province on 13 February and, as always, will be a hotly contested affair.
