Parnell and Tsotsobe show their support
John Masiza Primary School
November. 30th 2009 is a day that 400 pupils from John Masiza school in Port Elizabeth will not forget as they got to face up to the likes of Wayne Parnell and Lonwabo Tsotsobe, two of their sporting heroes.
The day was hosted by Bakers, CSA and Touch Africa in an effort to showcase Bakers Bats for Charity on a personal level. Although the event took place in high spirits, the reality of the conditions the children are currently working in became a priority. Broken desks, gaping holes in the ceiling, splintered floor boards, cracked chairs and shattered windows were a common site as the team investigated the various classrooms.
“We want to ensure that all who contribute towards our initiative are aware of the impact they will be making, no matter how big or small their donation.” says Jeanne Rosenberg, Biscuits Marketing Manager. “It was fantastic to see the support shown by both Wayne and Lonwabo. It is vital that the South African fans are 100% behind our national squad in order for them to succeed, at the same time, it is equally important that our players give back to cricket in order for the game to succeed. Both players added a lot of value to our cause and we thank them for that.”
Currently the school sports activities involve Rugby and Soccer, not a cricket bat to be seen. This was quickly rectified as EP Union donated a number of Bakers cricket sets to the pupils who wasted no time in setting up fields and getting play underway.
A total of R80 000 has been committed to renovate the dilapidated structures which will commence in December 09. We thank all those who have helped us raise the necessary funds and encourage any individuals/corporates who would like to get involved to contact us via www.bakersminicricket.co.za.
